The residential complex “Red Star” in Nis (23,800 m²) consists of two buildings intended for social housing. While the internal organization of the residential units is designed with a focus on maximum functionality and economy, the exterior architecture tends to a higher aesthetic standard. The buildings are storey culminating in green roof terraces intended for tenants, thus providing additional common space for rest and interaction within the complex.

Concept

The architectural term is based on the deconstruction of the classical rectangular form. On the third floor, a crocheting of volumes occurs, thereby breaking the strict geometry and creating a dynamic silhouette. The facade is defined by the free rhythm of openings and terraces that do not follow strict vertical sequences, giving the objects a characteristic visual pulse. The specific treatment of the ground floor in darker tones visually separates the upper white masses from the parterre, creating the impression of floating objects above the ground.
