The project of reconstruction and extension of the primary school “9 October” in Prokuplje is based on the idea of a complete architectural and functional improvement of the existing complex. The existing building, with ground floor and two floors, has been reorganized and adapted in accordance with modern educational standards, with improvement of spatial organization and quality of stay.

A special highlight of the project is the extension of a new fitness hall with a swimming pool, which together with the reconstructed part forms a single functional unit. The outdoor space is further designed as an extension of the school environment — open plateaus and landscaped green areas encourage socialization, play and outdoor living.

Concept

The concept of the object is based on a clear, horizontally emphasized composition that follows the measure of children and fits into the natural context. The new gymnasium is designed as a low, ragged volume with a broken roofline, achieving a dynamic but unobtrusive architectural expression. The materialization is reduced and warm, with an emphasis on natural tones and textures that allow the object to integrate harmoniously into the environment. Large glass surfaces establish a visual link between interior and exterior, while open spaces between volumes create pleasant environments for students to stay, play and daily activities.
