The project includes a comprehensive reconstruction and conversion of the iconic hostel in Zaječar into a modern museum-gallery space intended for all citizens. The focus of the intervention is on the transformation of the interior to meet modern exhibition standards, while preserving the historical identity of the building. The building is designed as an inclusive cultural center that connects the rich heritage of Zaječar with the needs of the local art scene and the general public.

Concept

The main architectural thread is the retention and careful restoration of the original facade, thus preserving the authentic appearance of the city center. While the exterior remains faithful to traditional proportions and decorative elements, the interior has been redefined with the introduction of flexible exhibition halls, new communication nodes and a modern lighting system. The blend of rustic materials of original construction and minimalist interventions in the interior creates a unique setting in which history serves as a backdrop for modern art.
