About project

2022.

The proposal for the extension of the Health Center in Nis includes the formation of a new wing of the general hospital, which builds on the existing structure. The project addresses the hospital capacity deficit through the construction of a multi-storey annex integrating surgical departments, an inpatient and a diagnostic center. The architectural solution is focused on establishing clear communication flows between primary and secondary health care, while providing separate emergency access for medical vehicles.

Concept

The object is shaped as a pure, orthogonal volume that, through its materialization, creates a contrast to the existing object. The facade is defined by the use of modular panels and continuous glass arrays that provide maximum natural lighting, essential for the recovery of patients. Cantilever overhangs on the upper floors provide sun protection, while at the same time forming covered entrance zones on the ground floor. Particular emphasis is placed on parterre landscaping; wide walking paths and greened plateaus in front of the hospital serve as therapeutic gardens, integrating nature into the clinical setting and visually facilitating the massive structure of the complex.

The extension of the General Hospital in Niš uses strict geometry and glass transparency to create an effective but humane healing space
