About project

2021.

The project includes the reconstruction, adaptation and extension of the existing Home for Children and Youth “Duško Radović” in Niš, thus expanding the capacity to 6,500 m² with the superstructure to the floors Su+P+3. The main objective is the functional separation of three independent units: the Home for Neglected Children, the Center for Family Housing and the City Municipality of Pantelej. With energy renovation and full adaptation of the space to users with disabilities, the interior is organized so that each floor belongs to a special age group, balancing between the need for intimacy and group activities.

Concept

The architectural expression is characterized by a simple rectilinear form refreshed by the contrast of white brick and the dominant bronze cubes. These volumes, formed by fixed and rotating panels of perforated sheet, are positioned in the places of the existing terraces, thus achieving a dynamic but coherent appearance of the facade. A special visual identity is given to the northern facade by the figure of Duško Radović embossed in sheet metal perforation. The building is completely permeated with greenery, thus creating an isolated, soothing environment for its occupants in the dense urban fabric.

Dom 'Duško Radović' transforms the inherited structure from 1984 into an inclusive space of high aesthetic level, where perforated metal panels serve as functional screens and artistic homage
