About project

2019.

The project of a SPA hotel within the complex “Banjica” in Knjaževac represents a complex architectural response to the challenging configuration of the terrain. On a gross area of 5,151 m², the building is organized through six floors, carefully using the denivalization of the plot to form independent approaches. While the upper levels are reserved for a variety of accommodation units and suites, an entire floor is dedicated to the medical block, rehabilitation and wellness center. Such a functional scheme allows the fluid movement of guests and employees, integrating the new facility into the existing sports and recreational matrix consisting of Olympic and children's pools.

Concept

At the heart of the concept is the idea of an object that does not violate the spirit of the place, but upgrades it. The irregular shape of the hotel is a direct derivative of the morphology of the terrain, thus achieving that the overall volume visually calms down and merges with the surroundings. The materialization of the facade further emphasizes this dialogue: the northeast front is resolved as a ventilated facade with a wood finish, which refers to the natural context, while the last floor, treated with alubond panels, introduces a note of precision. The result is a structure that brings urbanity to an isolated locality, while maintaining an intimate relationship with the landscape.

The hotel in Knjaževac is an example of architectural adaptability, where difficult topography is transformed into an advantage, creating spaces imbued with peace and natural textures
